The girl lived with rats in the sewers.

At first glance, this may seem like fantasy. But as a child, this girl's mother threw her down the drain. The child miraculously managed to survive. The thing is that sewer rats know how to nurse not their cubs and take them into a howling family.

Rats are known and seen by everyone.

At the same time, most people don't know anything about them. For example: where did they actually come from? Anyone understands that the type of "pasyuk rat" (the most common now) is older than the type of "man". And where did they themselves live before and live now? In desert? In the woods? In the savanna? In the mountains? On what continent at least (for some reason many people think that Pasyuki sailed from the New World)?

You will laugh: like people, rats in our latitudes love nature and sometimes for the summer period ... "leave for the country." That is, they return for the summer to that biotope where their ancestors once lived: along the banks of rivers, in floodplain thickets. They will rest in nature (away from people?), They will bring out strong “country” offspring and return to us for the winter - in cities and towns.

These creatures are insanely smart. Especially impressionable is better not to think about what you read next.

For example, if rats live in your stairwell, then each of them knows you. You personally, with your habits, etc. And your entire family. If you go to the same shop every night, then all the shop rats know you too. As a child, I read about this from Akimushkin, but somehow I didn’t believe it until I myself encountered in my youth: when I entered the elephant herd in the morning, all available rats recognized me and continued to go about their business (I didn’t touch them).

If other workers entered (they hated rats, threw boots, tried to knock them down with a stick), the rats disappeared in advance. Perhaps your basement rats even gave you a name. It is not difficult for them, because in 2000, German researchers found that a one-year-old rat communicates with relatives, making up to 5,000 different sounds (not every person has such an everyday vocabulary).

Somehow, the equipment of neat Germans recorded a conversation of two laboratory rats for 7 minutes. During this time, one made 600 different sounds, and the other - 400. It seems to be not much, but where can a truly educated rat come from in crowded enclosures for experimental animals (in fact, in prison conditions)! ..

Those who have read my previous materials about animals know that I have long been fascinated by the topic of mirrors, reflections and projections in the form of animals of our own, human problems. Wolves, dogs, cats, even ladybugs... BUT - rats! Indeed, a mirror for all mirrors!

It's hard to imagine what it's like to be stuck for 17 years in the body of a child. But that's exactly what Pei Shan Teo from Singapore experienced.

When Pei Shan was born, doctors discovered that her limbs were much shorter than those of a normal child. Having gone through a lot of research, Pei Shan does not have a clear official diagnosis, although her medical record lists mucopolysaccharidosis type III, a congenital disorder that affects bones, organs and the central nervous system. Whatever the name of what is happening to Pei Shan's body, one thing remains 100% true: this girl is unique. Her body is not growing like other children. So to speak, her mind is contained in a body that is not subject to time.

Pei Shan's parents still remember how, excited and joyful, they were waiting for their child to come home from the hospital. They studied parenting literature for a long time and even subscribed to a magazine dedicated to child care. They were ready to record every centimeter that their little daughter had grown. But Pei Shan stopped growing three months after she was born. And now, when the parents had already gradually got used to and resigned themselves to the fate of their little child, a new health problem knocked on Pei Shan's life. “Every time we thought we had already overcome one test, we were waiting for the next blow, then another and another, and we had to go through a whole rollercoaster of suffering to experiences and vice versa,” recalls her father Qi Guan Teo.

Pei Shan still has obesity on her face and limbs. In many ways, including the physical plane, she is still a child, although she is already 17 years old. Also, because her lung capacity is limited, she must wear an oxygen mask all her life. “Sometimes I just wonder why us? - shares Mr. Theo. What have I done in my life that I am now paying for? Such thoughts often visit us, but in the beginning, when we were just getting used to everything, we focused only on how to overcome the situation. And there was simply no time to think about something else.”

“I went to bed dreaming of not waking up the next morning,” admits Theo. - But I quickly realized that it was very irresponsible - to think so. My wife and child will then be left alone, and there will be no one to take care of them.”

Considering Pei Shan's special condition, her mother left her job as a bank teller and devoted herself entirely to taking care of her daughter. After that, the family's only source of income was what Teo earned as a taxi driver. Soon the huge medical bills became a serious financial hardship for the family, so serious that for some time they were in danger of going out of business.

When Pei Shan was two years old, her parents wanted to send her to a special school, but the situation was different. Being on the street, she can easily pick up an infection through the respiratory tract. That is exactly what happened one of those days. “Her oxygen level dropped to almost zero and she turned completely blue. We almost lost her then,” Theo recalls, barely holding back tears.

What's more, the sidelong glances they got from other people in public places became more and more unbearable every day. “Some parents take their children away after learning that my daughter is so special,” said Ms. Chu.

Despite her many challenges, this brave girl battles her illness with great inner strength for 17 years. She loves to draw and play the piano. “Sometimes she asks us why she is different from other children and we always tell her that it is because she is special and unique. She is a happy child and often the little things like watching her favorite show or her favorite meal for lunch are all she needs to be happy,” Theo smiles. Last year, Pei Shan's dream came true: she played the piano at a charity concert. The girl's joy knew no bounds.

Unfortunately, Pei Shan's condition worsened dramatically in July 2016. After being injected with morphine as an emergency treatment for shortness of breath, she passed away in the hospital, surrounded by her parents and love.

Pei Shan had a hard and unusual life. But at the same time, she remained an optimist and, deep down, believed in the good. She wished to be buried dressed as her favorite character, Hello Kitty Bunny. All of us, the whole world, will remember her as a person who knew how to enjoy life, despite such great limitations with which she was born. Indeed, one can learn a lot from Pei Shan.

The story of a girl who grew up with rats seems incredible and implausible at first glance.

Once upon a time, a woman left her little child in a manhole, and the child miraculously survived! The main role in his salvation was played by rats that live in the sewers. Yes, you heard right, imagine. This is not surprising, given the fact that rodents are able to nurse other people's creatures and take them into their family.

Rats are quite interesting animals.

You will probably find it funny that rats, like people, move to water bodies in the summer and, in general, try to get closer to nature. Rodents also need such a “rest”, like a person: having gained strength, they return to settlements.

From a scientific standpoint, rats are pretty interesting creatures.

Rodents are smart creatures

Every day you go to the same store, and the rats living there already during this time managed to recognize you and are not afraid of your arrival. They can sit quietly under the stairs of the outlet and calmly go about their business, that is, they don’t run away when they see you. Unless, of course, you don't touch them.

According to the observations of eyewitnesses - shop regulars, if other people who tried to immediately kill the rodents entered it, they disappeared in a panic in advance.

But often there are cases when rats rush at people and even bite them. So rats are very aggressive when they face a danger to life.
So be careful with these cute animals. They are far from harmless.

According to scientists, rodents are very smart animals.

Research

Many studies were carried out with rats by German scientists. In particular, in 2000 they found out that an animal that is a year old, in communication with relatives, is capable of making up to 5 thousand different sounds!

Laboratory studies have shown that in 7 minutes one rat is capable of making 400-600 completely different sounds. It would seem that not so much, but, you see, such figures are amazing, because these rodents are not endowed with a special mind.

The Story of Jennifer Lawrence

The Hunger Games mega-show brought popularity to American Jennifer Lawrence, who lived next door to rats for many years. Today, the girl is very famous, she receives offers from various companies and film studios.

However, the path to glory is usually full of failures, difficulties and disappointments. Not so long ago, Jennifer told her story in an interview for one of the US radio stations. At the age of 14, she left for New York to study acting, despite the fact that her parents did not support her. At first, she did not even communicate with them.
